Dr. Simon John Buckley


Simon Buckley is a Principal Researcher at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. He has worked at the forefront of virtual outcrop geology for 15 years, contributing to novel methods in lidar, photogrammetry, hyperspectral imaging and visualisation of geoscience data. He has a background in geospatial science, with a PhD from Newcastle University, UK. Through his career to date, he has been focussed on initiatives to democratize digital geoscience methods to enhance accessibility and multidisciplinary collaboration. In 2016, he and his team convened the 2nd Virtual Geoscience Conference in Bergen, Norway. Buckley is currently involved with innovative software projects for geoscientists, including the SAFARI outcrop analogue database, LIME visualisation and interpretation software, and virtual field trip creation.
